Hayes B. Gladstone, MD Hayes B. Gladstone, MD was the Director of the Division of Dermatologic Surgery at Stanford University from 2000-2011. He attained the rank of Associate Professor in the Departments of Dermatology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Gladstone trained under Ronald L. Moy, MD at UCLA in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, reconstruction and cosmetic surgery. He was awarded the Theodore Tromovitch Award for the best research project in 2000 by the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has been the recipient of the Dermatology Foundation Career Development Award in Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Gladstone has extensively taught other dermatologists and dermatologic surgeons. He has served on numerous master reconstruction panels at the Mohs College and American Society of Dermatologic Surgery annual meetings, and directed the ASDS Refinements in Reconstruction course. He has been the Director for the American Academy of Dermatology’s Advanced Cosmetic Surgery as well as the ASDS’ facial cosmetic course, and was the editor of the ASDS advanced cosmetic DVD’s. He has directed the Masters Course in Cosmetic Procedures at the annual International Society for Dermatologic Surgery meeting. He was co-director of the popular “The Next Step” Course at Stanford on mastering dermatologic surgery procedures. He is one of the pioneers in performing facelifts under local anesthesia. He is an assistant editor of Dermatologic Surgery, the major journal of procedural dermatology. Dr. Gladstone has served on the California Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society. He is a past president of the San Francisco Dermatology Society, and the current president of the Pacific Dermatology Association, the largest regional dermatology group in the United States. He is the co-founder of the Blade and Light Society which organizes Mohs surgery trips to emerging countries. For 11 years, Dr. Gladstone, volunteered and supervised on a regular basis at a homeless clinic run by Stanford medical students. Dr. Gladstone has been named one of the country’s top dermatologic surgeons by consumer groups, and has been listed in Who’s Who in America. He has been featured in San Jose Magazine as a top doctor for mohs surgery and blepharoplasties. He has been profiled in Gentry Magazine and featured in Best of the Bay for dermatologic surgery. He has been honored by the Melanoma Research Foundation for his treatment of skin cancers. Dr. Gladstone has been quoted for both cosmetic and skin cancer issues in national magazines including Newsweek, Readers Digest, Good Housekeeping and Men’s Health and He is the author of approximately 75 publications including nearly 30 book chapters and co-editor of one textbook. He is currently working on a book on decision-making in cosmetic surgery, and a series of surgical reconstruction atlases. In his spare time, Dr.Gladstone, a former sports editor/photojournalist, enjoys skiing, squash, tennis, photography and the classical guitar.
